Sustainability Information
Watch out for Rusty, our Red Squirrel, as he shows you what we are doing to save energy and resources
-
Waste
We have bins for all recyclable items generated at the Centre by staff and visitors.
All our coffee grounds and tea bags are collected as food waste and will be composted. You can add your food waste too.
We’ve reduced the amount of plastic we use eg we replaced plastic spoons with wooden stirrers.
We collect used postage stamps and send them to a charity.
These actions reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.
-
Water
We have push taps in the toilets and the water pressure is reduced.
Every flush just uses enough water to get the job done.
We have a Water Management Plan and carry out regular testing.
These actions save water.
-
Biodiversity
We promote local and national initiatives.
We 'plant for pollinators' in our outdoor tubs.
We work in partnership, and support conservation groups.
We run a programme of events and activities, educational visits for all ages and engage with the wider community.
These actions promote wildlife, conservation and biodiversity.
-
Heating and Energy
We’ve replaced old electric storage heaters with new units and improved the insulation inside the public toilets.
We’re working with other organisations to make the building more energy efficient.
These actions save electricity.
-
Lighting
Our light bulbs are energy efficient and motion sensors mean that they only come on when needed.
We’re making further changes to improve our lighting and increase its energy efficiency.
These actions save electricity.
-
Suppliers
We shop local and support local suppliers, artists and producers.
This action reduces food miles and saves on fuel for transport.
