I am Alison, Garioch Ranger employed by Aberdeenshire Council based at the Bennachie Visitor Centre.
As part of the Ranger Service Team I deliver and promote:
This involves working with schools, community groups and members of the public throughout the year at Bennachie and throughout the Garioch Area.
To book a visit with the Garioch Ranger, call 01467 681 470 or 07786 021 781 or Email: email@example.com
The Ranger Service is available all year round and is especially busy during May and June. It is recommended to book a date during Jan/Feb/Mar if you want your school or group to visit during these two months. The finer detail of the visit can be discussed nearer the time - the priority is to get the date in the diary.
Once the date and content of the visit is finalised the Garioch Ranger will email a Booking Form which has to be completed and emailed back promptly. Along with the Booking Form, a Risk Assessment and a Terms and Conditions document will be sent to be read, adhered to and retained with the school or groups administration records.
The Bennachie Visitor Centre has a room available for having snacks, lunch, and leaving rucksacks etc.
Self-led Educational Activity Packs will be available soon for Nursery/Playgroup and early years groups.
The Ranger is available to speak to Early Years Cluster groups to give suggestions and ideas for activities suitable for this age group which can be delivered
Activities for schools have to relate to the Curriculum for Excellence and this has to be detailed on the Booking Form.
Typical activities relating to nature and biodiversity are:-
These activities can be tailored to different age groups from Primary School to Secondary school age as well as further education students.
Bennachie is rich in social and cultural history and is often a topic requested by schools.
The Ranger is available to visit schools within the Garioch area and to deliver activities local to the school whether it is a woodland nearby or a school garden. The Ranger can help deliver the John Muir Award to P4 -P7 pupils.
The majority of equipment for the activities will be provided by the Ranger Service, if the school is required to bring anything that will be discussed between the Ranger and the Teacher prior to the visit.
Activities for Groups of all ages are very similar to the above and can quite easily be adapted to cover a specific topic on request.
Group visits can be arranged for during the day, evenings and weekends.
Self-led activity packs will be available soon to enable Groups to do activities independently.
Guided walks are popular with adult groups who are interested in the social history of the Bennachie area and the Garioch Ranger delivers an annual programme of events where members of the public can book onto these events by contacting the Ranger (details above). These events are advertised on the Bennachie Centre website What's On page and the Bennachie Visitor Centre Facebook pages.
The Ranger delivers school holiday activities throughout the Garioch Area which are very popular. The children attending these events have to be accompanied by an adult.
A Summer Events Programme showing all Aberdeenshire Council Ranger Service events from April to September is printed annually and available at various outlets including libraries throughout Aberdeenshire.
The Aberdeenshire Council Ranger Service do not charge for delivering educational activities to schools and groups or for the public events however donations are always welcome.
Speak to the Ranger for further information.
